Being involved in the national development and promotion of the Malaysian entertainment and media industry in the past decade, it gives me great pleasure to unveil Malaysia’s premiere one-stop digital content portal for the contents and application sector for the world. This international portal marks a new milestone in promoting the growth of this industry and also in presenting a showcase of content developers, from animation studios, TV/film productions, games & new media development, associations & organisations, a highly capable talent of support players in Malaysia, to the world.
As the global consumer spending is estimated to be worth US$ 1.7 trillion (Price Waterhouse Coopers), the Malaysian Government is aggressively enhancing its plans and strategies to be able to target and capture a significant share of the anticipated expansion value of estimated US$ 470 billion in Asia-Pacific alone. Under the “MY Creative Content” parallel to the ETP initiative, Malaysia targets to achieve a Gross National Income (GNI) of US$ 1 billion by 2020, creation of 10,300 jobs, and secure an export of 45% of its GNI targets.
Since then, the Malaysian Government agencies such as the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has provided their passion and commitment to help to address many issues affecting the growth of the creative multimedia content industry, as well as promoting Malaysian digital contents to the world with support of effective market development, specialised incentives and industry development.
It is highly anticipated that the Asia-Pacific will over-take North America as the largest satellite market in the coming years. These figures reflect the international spotlight on Asia, where investors and businesses are naturally putting greater focus on the region. GCMA is excited to be part of this growing industry, to provide the most attractive platform that will further propel the region to success.
As the Malaysian Government has announced plans to implement a singular digital content industry strategy in the objective of accelerating the entertainment and media industry under Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), GCMA is working closely to align all marketing campaigns and public relations/media activities to facilitate and nurture Malaysia’s creative content and application industry, namely content creation, services, and distribution & broadcasting sectors, which will eventually transform Malaysia into a regional hub for digital content and to elevate the nation to a high-income society. Together with the Government and the dedicated industry players, GCMA will be committed and poised to the challenge to lead “Creative Malaysia” to the prominent markets in the world to showcase Malaysia’s capacity and capability to create original, locally produced content and develop competency in content-related services to the regional market.
